Ivan Filipovic’s concept for this project revolves around the Adriatic Sea with it thousands of islands, bays and coves, inaccessible lots and the protected natural beauty. Filipovic sees the ideas stemming from NAVIGATING Architecture as the best response to this idyllic setting. A navigable hotel (often popularly called the “Botel” = boat + hotel) offers areal tourist attraction.
NAVIGATING ARCHITECTURE There are two basic scenarios to use this type of floating architecture: a hotel in remote and inaccessible locations, as well as a hotel in the city and the harbor. In the first scenario, users can access remote and inaccessible locations by a boat or a helicopter. The second scenario is ideal for tourist events connected with the sea, such as the various races, Croatian BAOT show, etc., where in addition to the basic bedroom also offers a host of other services such as restaurants, cafe bars, a nightclub on the roof terrace, etc.
The hotel consists of a large volume of the mobile base and 22 smaller (further separating possible) living modules. Depending on the scenario of use, guests are offered a free ketanja. For example, sine the bedrooms are detachable units the guest are able to separate from the main volume of the hotel while the hotel anchored in a weather tested and safe bay, and spend the day or night exploring the bay at their leisure.
Depending on the tourism demand, the hotel can be transported to different destinations. Transport time is determined by weather (the ideal conditions of the sea), and thoroughly tested anchoring sites (safe harbors, bays and coves, isolated from the weather …). Service vessels also serve as a transportation of guests (a variant isolated locations), and other economic purposes.
SLEEPING MODULES The sleeping modules are independent units with the possibility of their own movement. They are equipped with photovoltaic solar energy devices that accumulate and use the energy to move. They are also equipped with advanced technologies that are relatively hassle-free. All modules are networked GPS systems via remote control. The user can at any time make a simple command and return the (prispojiti) volume to the main hotel.
Functional solutions: The hotel also includes an entrance lobby, reception, bar, and restaurant dining for entertaining guest or visitors. Also, there is a toilet designed for persons with reduced mobility. All these areas are surrounded by a covered outdoor deck, which also acts as the walkway to access the sleeping modules. From the central part (lobby) staircase leading to the roof deck where there is a large multi-purpose terrace, swimming pool with showers and dressing rooms, green oasis, bar (nightclub) with a dance floor at the very top.
